Soft Matter Structure & Physics

Organisms have a rounded shape in the macroscopic view. However, they are composed of countless small strings (macromolecules) if we look at them at the nano-level. These strings form higher-order structures and even complexes and express a series of sophisticated functions.

Our research interests cover a variety of soft materials, such as polymer solutions, colloids, gels, and biological tissues.

We combine structural analysis methods such as light, X-ray, and neutron scattering with rheological techniques and spectroscopy to elucidate the underlying mechanisms between the macroscopic properties of soft materials and their nanostructure.
